Kirk’s Wish List

First and foremost I’d like to suggest that the best “gift” anyone could give me would be to donate your money to a charity rather than buying something for me.  I like to support MSF, WWF, or local homeless shelters.  If you’re stumped for gift ideas or want to get me something you know I’ll love, this is the way to go.

If you’re still not convinced, and want to get me something tangible, here’s a few ideas.

  1. Time.  Yes my number 1 “want” is more time.  Time to learn and practice drums or piano, time to meditate, time to clean up the office, time to get gardening done, time to go on adventures with the family, time to go camping with friends, time to call said friends on the phone, time to read mindless things like magazines, time to read engrossing books on meditation, design, product management, time to do some neat projects around the house like getting a backup system working for everyone, time to practice photography – the list goes on.  Time, Time, Time!
  2. You can always look to my Music To Buy page, for ideas.  I prefer digital purchases in lossless (FLAC) formats, but CDs are a close second.
  3. Printables I could put on a wall
  4. Books that look interesting
  5. 3D Printing Hobby
    • Fun printable models like my current favourite game character Shadowheart
    • Paints for painting prints (I have none so this is a bit of an experiment). I print using PLA so I think Acrylics are the right place to start?
  6. Photography related things
    • A macro lens
    • Fisheye lens
  7. Computer/Electronics
    • I’m exploring Home Automation and a Home Assistant, so items such as
      • I’m using WiFi to connect all these devices, not Zigbee or any other protocol.
      • Smart (WiFi) plugs
        • I’d really love to have a smart plug that can report out energy usage too TP-Link Kasa HS110, KP115.  Full list of supported models here.
      • Dimmers/switches (looks like Leviton Decora is compatible, as are TP-Link among others)
      • Shelly seems to provide the most open solution and I’d like to get some experience with their products.  Like motion sensors, lights, door sensors, etc
    • Home security cameras.  I recently upgraded my two old ones and find the Reolink cameras really nice.  I need some supplies for the current ones
      • High capacity (256GB +) micro SD Cards for on-camera storage
      • Another camera or two for the doors (RLC-410W)
    •  DVDs/Movies
    • Lee Valley Tools has some really cool stuff:
